Good News

There is good news for communities feeling the effects of the rural downtum. The key lies in community support groups. This is the view of volunteers with the Waimarino Community Advice Service, who are concerned by the "feeling of despair" within the community. CAS volunteer Gail Imhoff is keen to help families establish support groups within their immediate areas. "Everyone is feeling the strain at the moment - it may be helpful for families to be part of a supportive group made up of others with similar problems." Two such groups are already operating within the area, with some success. Both groups hold regular gettogethers, alternating between home meets and at community facilities.
