BNZ rumour still not substantiated

Rumours that the Raetihi Bank of New Zealand branch is closing cannot be substantiated. Manager John Chittendon cannot confirm or deny the rumour. Calls by the Bulletin to the BNZ's district office in Palmerston North have not succeeded in obtaining a response. Mr Chittendon said he had also heard the rumours and he had attempted to pursue them with the bank. "I'm in the air myself," he said. "The bank is talking about restructuring but they haven't made their minds up about anything yet." The Raetihi branch of the bank has eight staff. In Ohakune the branch has nine or ten staff.
