Staying safe with Ruapehu Lahars

Timeshare has arrived in the Ruapehu region. The Manorhouse at , National Park is being marketed on a timeshare basis this winter. Announcing the project, the owner, Mr Marshall

Gebbe, who operates the Buttercup rafting company and Butternut Restaurant, said he had gone into a joint venture for the timeshare programme. Tauranga-based Pacific Timeshare International, which currently manages

five timeshare projects, is behind the venture. Executive director Mr Victor Gray says a total of $1.2 million will be spent on redeveloping the Manorhouse and on marketing. The large three-storey building is being renovated to create high-quality studio units. There will be 10 units sleeping four or five and 2 one-bedroom units sleeping eight. Unlike all-year-round resorts, the Manorhouse will be primarily a 12-week ski season development with packages of time of up to four weeks for sale. Mr Gray says that while the final price per interval has not yet been confirmed, his company is working to a goal of making time available at $20 per day. This will apply for 21 years after which the building will be sold and any capital gain shared among timeshare owners. "A major advantage is that all owners will belong to Interval International with more than 500 resorts around the world to choose from," he says. Time can be exchanged in Europe and North American ski resorts such as Breckenridge, Vail, Colorado, Snowbird, Copper Mountain and Beaver Creek. The Manorhouse will be on the market within two weeks and during the ski season saies consultants will be on site. The company is running a promotion offering a free season's pass to all who purchase intervals before July 1.
