Cash for Ketetahi
From page 1 "We're concerned about erosion and the damage to vegetation due to the large numbers of visitors who use the track," said Mr Small. He said if the track is properly maintained the walkers stay on the track and the erosion and vegetation damage would be kept to a minimum. The track is one of the most popular in the park, with more than 250 people using it at Anzac weekend. Mr Small said the $39,000 would cover the cost of upgrading the track. He said because the area concerned was a long way from the road end helicopters would be needed to transport material and tools. Helicopter flying time is one of the major costs involved in this type of work. The grant of $39,000 comes from a series from the CAPS scheme totaling $438,000 being handed out to national parks and reserves.
