DISTRICT COUNCIL CAR PROBLEM SOLVED
The Waimarino District Council's dilemma over the purchase of a new vehicle to transport Raetihi-based staff has been solved, without the Council spending ratepayers money on a car. A newly appointed staff member from Raetihi will ferry other staff to and from Ohakune. Council agreed last week to pay the staff member a mileage allowance for the use of her vehicle. Mayor Garrick Workman said it was a good solution, "to what was fast becoming a very contentious issue." In the event of days off, staff will use their own vehicles or else return to using the taxi service.
