Kaumatua Taika Nikorima receives the offerings and welcomes visitors onto the Aowhiru Marae at Atene, for the river schools' annual cultural day. Teachers, children and parents from nine schools
converged on Atene for the day. Amongst those present were staff from Pipiriki Ranger Station who conducted bush walks and talks about the Whanganui National Park. A potluck lunch was held with the breathtaking backdrop of the Wanganui River and its surrounding bush.
