George Edward from Littles

The name is the only change in store for shoppers at George Edward, formerly Littles Fashion Wearhouse, in Ohakune. Owner Martin Little

renamed the business after his great-grandfa-ther George Edward Little, originally from Ireland. Mr G.E. Little established the family's first business in New

Zealand in Taihape. The year was 1913. Another menswear business in Longford, England is still run by the family today. George Edward's father died in 1937, while on a vist to the country. Littles Menswear was run by his son for nearly 50 years then purchased by his son, Martin Little. Martin Little opened the first George Edward in Taihape in 1980. In 1982, Littles Menswear was opened in Ohakune. A third business in the chain was recently opened in Mt Maunganui. The change from Littles to George Edward links the shop with the Taihape and Mt Maunganui shops and with the family and business history.
