Railways again
Once again transport and communication don't quite go together: A Raetihi man contacted the Bulletin last week to report an incident involving a friend of his from Auckland and New Zealand Railways. He reports that his friend booked a return train journey from Auckland to Ohakune and after his stay here, went to the Ohakune Railway station to catch the 1.05pm train, the one he had a seat booked on. By two o'clock there was still no train, but
he was told at that time by a passing Railways employee, riding a jigger, that there was no train that day. During a search for further information he was told a bus was on its way to pick up train passengers. The bus finally arrived about 4pm, though in the meantime other passengers booked gave up and made other arrangements. Our informant points out that this lack of communication is a result of the station now being 'unmanned', with no altemative information arrangements being made by Railways.
