Ohakune councillor for deputy mayor
Ohakune Ward representative, Cr Bruce Thompson has been appointed Deputy Mayor of the Waimarino District Council. Mayor Garrick Workman announced the appointment at the swearing in ceremony of councillors on Tuesday April 6. Mayor Workman also announced the names of the chairmen and members of the council committees. The same committee, structure has been set up for the District Council as that used by the three amalgamating
councils. Town planning is to be chaired by Deputy Mayor Bruce Thompson with Councillors Errol Sue, David Griffiths and Tom Punch as members. Works and Reserves will be chaired by Cr Ken Summerhays. Crs Bill Harding, Bruce Thompson and Jeremy Treblecock will serve' on the committee. Finance and Administration chairman is Cr Doug Bennett with Crs John Compton, Ellen Gould and Peggy Frew as members. Mayor Garrick Workman will serve on all three committees ex officio.
Decisions made by committees are voted on by members only though some chairpersons do allow other councillors sitting in on meetings to speak, i said District Manager John Murrihy.
Committee decisions have to be approved by full council before being implemented. All three committee meetings will be held on the same night each month. April's meetings are to be held
Wednesday April 20. The full Council meeting is to be held Wednesday April 27. Committee meetings as well as full council meetings are open to the public as well as the press.
