College bounces back

Ruapehu College bounced back from a 10-1 defeat last week to a well-de-served 6-3 win against last year's champions Cadets A. College went ahead after two minutes with a skillful goal by Brendan Gammeter. This was followed by sustained pressure by College's forwards Jeff Drayton and Jason Langdon, which led to John Laurenson scoring a goal mid-way through the first half. Cadets speed and fitness caused problems for College's back players of . Duane Dixon, Ken Whipp and John Greenwood. College led two goals to one at half time.

College players soaked up a lot of pressure in the second half and at one stage Cadets drew level at 22. But a goal scoring spree by Peter Samson, Duane Dixon and Brendan Gammeter put the game well out of reach of Cadets A team, with a final score line of 63. Phillip Kerr, Nigel McDonough played

well in midfield to compete with much bigger, fitter players and Dean Drayton also had a good game in goal. Cadets were the holders of the Charity Shield, a trophy played for between the two sides. College's win brought the shield back to Ruapehu's trophy case. Well done College!
