True council colours
Well the new District Council is showing its colours and acting like so many local bodies - irrespective of election promises! What nonsense to make a capital outlay of thousands of dollars to transport workers who could simply be offered reimbursement. To be locked into an arrangement such as supplying a vehicle for and hour's use a day for a varying number of workers - come on councillors that's not very practical! I also understood that one of the aims of amalgamation was to effect a reduction in staff numbers by attrition. I see a senior job is currently being advertised - if there is no-
one on the staff who can step into this job then before an appointment is made someone should be moved on. Surely not all the staff are protected for two years? We've elected a good group of councillors to run the District Council and look after our rates - let's hope they don't get carried away with an administration empire such as has happened with other local bodies around the country. No wonder the Government is considering wide ranging reforms. Ratepayer
