Carnival coming to town

bylynleyward The carnival is coming to town over Queen's Birthday Weekend. to coincide with Beer Fest '88, Raetihi and Ohakune business and clubs will host a number of stalls and activities for residents and visitors on June 4, 5 and 6. There will be trips to the Army Museum at Waiouru, horseriding, rafting, jet-boating and scenic flights, with shuttle services available to all venues. In Ohakune there will be stalls on the railway land, a beer festival, a half marathon and other contests, including an international carrot eating competition and King and Queen of the Junction. Ruapehu South Business Association president Sue Allomes says it will be a chance for people to enjoy themselves - whether there is snow or not. "It's necessary to dispel thoughts that Ohakune has nothing to offer when the snow isn't here." Clubs and businesses interested in being a part of the weekend's activities can get more information from Mike Wiggins at the Junction Ski Shop, or Val Parkes, at Ohakune Shoes.
