FACING UP Goodbye Ohakune

Throughout life we all face changes. Today the world seems to be changing so rapidly that it's hard to change to keep up. Sometimes we want to cry out "Stop the world, I want to get off!" But change is a part of living we must all face. How do you cope with change? How have you faced up to your changing environment? Maybe it's a new job, a new house, a death in the family, having your first child or some other life changing experience. You know life will never be exactly the same again. Some people just seem to take it all in their stride, others experience mixed emotions, guilt, fear, confusion or depression and still others just cannot cope. For me the last three weeks have been a time of great change. A new town, home, , job and friends. Life will never be the same. Of course I've had to do it all before. Maybe I'm used to such changes.

Three years ago I shifted to Ohakune without a permanent place to live, no job, and only a little money. Within two weeks I had a job and a house. Throughout this time I learnt to trust God in a special way. He taught me to face each challenge head on and to keep on looking ahead. It's important to look back at the past, to learn from experience but you cannot live in the past. We must press on, jump the hurdles of life and meet those new challenges with confidence. I've enjoyed my three years in Ohakune, I've met a lot of people, made some good friends, done a few things, learnt a lot. I go to Feilding a wiser man. Thank you Ohakune. Kevin Martin
