A well earned break
A year in the life of Officer Cadets Janet Hunt, Tim Dunwoodie, Brett Rankin, Johnlvil and Ahmad Azahar.
It must have been with a feeling of great relief that the junior and senior classes of officer cadets came to the end of Operation 'Sabre Sting' last week, and took four wellearned days leave. The two week exercise combined class and field work and had the officer cadets 'dug in' for several nights, 20km from Army Training Group in the Army's defence area. The majority of the officer cadets, upon returning to the base, headed straight to the showers. HUNT: "Living out in the field for two weeks left you pretty grotty.
This is the 13 th instalment of 'A Year In The Life Of, following the progress of Officer The only problem was there wasn't any hot water until 2am when we got back to camp." What were you most looking forward to during your time off? DUNWOODIE: Sleep!
Cadets Janet HUNT, Tim DUNWOODIE, Ahmad AZAHAR, Brett RANKIN and John IVI1. (chorused by the rest of the group.) IVIL: "Real food, as compared to army rations." Most of the cadets either returned to their homes or to other
cadets' homes for the Easter break. Of the five, the time was spent simply relaxing or preparing for their return to camp. IVIL: "It took me the weekend to clean everything. Our gear got pretty dirty during the exercise - there wasn't enough time to do it then." HUNT: "It was nice to go home and talk to some real people." NEXT WEEK: The group's weekend Marae visit.
