Missioner: 'Raetihi is not dying'

A three year project run in the Waimarino by the New Z e a 1 a n d Anglican Church Army culminated in a two h o u r church service in Raetihi o n Sunday. The service marked the end of a 10 day ecumenical teaching mission. The mission was led once again by Parish Missions Officer of the NZ Church Army Captain Peter Allfrey, and a team of f i v e associate 1 a y evangelists from around New Zealand. The mission offered all parishioners two teaching services "Discovering your gift from God", and "Unwrapping the gifts of the Holy Spirit." Captain Peter Allfrey was enthusiastic about the response by the wider community. Captain Allfrey: "The result of the three year project was an increase in the base number of supporters of the

Church, with deepened commitment and faith of the core group." The mission was unique in that no other Parish in the country, for many years, had held so many missions in such a short space of

time. "From the mission's point of view, Raetihi is not a dying town," he said. The group plan a follow-up visit to the Waimarino in 1989.
