Driving course turnout disappointing
"Disappointing", was how T a u - marunui's Defensive Driving Instructor Graham Deadman described the response to the first ever certificated Defensive Driving course to be held in the Waimarino. While just three Waimarino people applied to attend the course Mr Deadman is hopeful that the idea will catch on. "It takes a while
sometimes for people to grasp a new concept," he said. The course teaches basic road rules, how to recognise hazards, and safe driving techniques with an overall aim of teaching motorists how to drive defensively. At the end of the eight hour course the successful 'safe' drivers were presented with a certificate of merit. All three course participants passed the weekend course. Another course is to be held in the Waimarino in July.
Mr Deadman is optimistic that there will be a better response to the second course to b e held in Ohakune.
