Nutrition facts book
'New Zealand Nutrition - and Your Health', is a book bulging with information on how to look after your body. Publisher and writer of the book David Coory promises information on how to sleep better, relax, overcome fatigue, - handle stress, avoid heart disease, avoid mental disorders, and feel good and live longer. He says he came to write the book after his father suffered a heart attack and he became motivated to research into the prevention of heart disease. His research was through reading widely, attending lectures and interviews with, presumably, health experts. He says he is not a health expert but has used his skills as a publisher to bring together proven facts on nutrition and health. The book is set out in short sections which deal with the various elements of nutrition, for example, calories, carbohydrates, cholesterol, fats, fibre, protein and sugars as well as each vitamin and mineral. Each element and its function in the body is described, and maximum and minimum daily intakes discussed. As well, the consequences of too little and too much of each substance is discussed. Throughout the book are scattered quotes from various sources on how to eat well, exercise and be healthy. There are also many 'health hints', set out in boxes for an easy quick read. It's refreshing to see a book of this nature that has not tried to break new nutrition and health ground but rather, has decided to gather together the known facts about how to look after our own health. This book is available from David Coory Publishing, box 8050 Tauranga, phone (075) 6 3 891, for $20 per copy.
