and third place to M r and Mrs B. Wagstaff; This award was decided from a group of 9 entrants and judged on such criteria as design, harmony and cultivation of flower, vegetable plots, lawns, trees and shrubs. The team of judges from Ohakune Garden Club commented on the closeness of the com-

petition results. Special mention was also given to Mr C. Larsen's garden for its high colour content, and also to 16 senior citizens who entered. The winners will be presented with the silver tray trophy and nursery vouchers. The Civic Pride Award is judged from the roadside for the property's overall presen-

tation. A panel from the Raetihi Garden Club awarded first place to Mr and Mrs R. Brynes, corner Ward and King Streets, second to Mr and Mrs C. Ryland and third to Mr and Mrs J. Sommerville. Once again, it was a very close competition. Oth er gardens mentioned were those of the late Mrs C. Dobson, Mr - and Mrs J. Pearson and Mrs M. H e m a p o . Outstanding new garden was that of Mrs H. Wiggins which the judges felt was a real credit to a pensioner who mows her own lawns. Another new garden of merit was that of Mr and Mrs R. Munn.

Pitt Street, from Ballance to Duncan St was noted as the tidiest and best presented street. Highly commended for their overall neatness, arrangement and colour are the gardens and plots in the care of the Raetihi Borough Council staff. The Waimarino Hospital, Raetihi Campsite, and the Veterinary Clinic were also commended on the pleasing appearance of their surroundings. The winner will receive the Civic Pride cup and nursery vouchers. Congratulations are extended to all those people who take a n interest and pride in their surroundings.
