Appeal no problem say developers
The appeal from T.B. and M.E. Leggatt against the planned Ohakune J u n c t i o n Railway Station hotel has not daunted KM Developments. "We're moving ahead on our own timetable," said KM Developments partner Roy Middleton last Thursday. He said the company's main concern now was the current negotiations with financial backers. The Town Planning Tribunal appeal from the Ohakune hoteliers was unlikely to slow the project, said Mr Middleton. The Ohakune Hotel proprietors, T.B. and M.E. Leggatt have based their appeal on objections raised at the town planning hearing on the proposal held in Ohakune in January. The objections to the proposal were: inappropriate use for land zoned industrial; contrary to public interest; would have town and country planning significance beyond the immediate vicinity; district scheme could not remain unchanged; inappropriate when council intends reviewing scheme. Mr Middleton said he did not know when the tribunal hearing would be held. "We're not so con-
cerned about the appeal, it's the Ohakune people and the council's opinion we would take more notice of," said Mr Middleton. He said the company was negotiating with two different parties for finance, one in New Zealand and the other overseas. New Zealand Railways will hold some equity in the development but
their's will be a minor part, said Mr Middleton. The development was likely to proceed as originally planned, apart from a few minor changes in the light of planning approval conditions, he said. "We will keep council informed as to the changes in detail," said Mr Middleton.
