The events that will entertain you

By now everyone is well aware that Desert Fair 88 will be an entertainment spectacle As such it has not simply happened without a great deal o f planning and practise by participants. The motorcycle gymkhana for example would put any horse show to shame. The circuits, obstacles and jumps that the riders intend to wheel, bounce and fly over have taken hours of devising. Even

something as simple as the tug-of-war by the Regular Force Cadets has involved hours of training and practice. Probably the event that has required the greatest input is the Top Town contest. A senior and junior team from Taihape, Turangi, Ohakune/Raetihi and Waiouru have had to organise themselves and then physically and mentally prepare. Each team will undertake four activities. Each will

test the team to the limit and all will require their fellow townsfolk to cheer them on. One of the more interesting activities will be the quick strip demonstration of army land rovers. Two vehicles specially invented will be stripped down by teams representing the Waiouru Lions and four ATG workshops. Once stripped the vehicles are man handled over a bridge and re-assem-bled.

An entertaining activity which will amuse young and old will be the bicycle polo where horse power is replaced by pedal power. The

two teams will be the Waiouru celebrities versus the teenage all stars. On a more martial note will be the

Waiouru Marching Team who will put on a demonstration to b e remembered. Othcr events that will undoubtedly be remem-

bered are the cultural songs and dances to be put on by the Waiouru Maori Culture Club, the Te Awa Youth Trust and the Gurkhas.
