HEINOLD: They are welcome. TREBILCOCK: Year round tourism is important for continuity of employment. How do you feel about conservation? HAITANA: TNP will be most popular park, must protect these assets, if we don't they could be abused and lost forever. RYLAND: As a biologist very interested but not extremist. SUMMERHAYS: I'm a conservationist and a realist. There's room for both. BURROWS: Conservation assures our children will not be disadvantaged. HAMMOND: I am

THOMPSON: Strongly in favour of conservation. SUE: We must preserve what we have inherited. But if development can be accommodated we must assess the situation.. BERRY: Broadly, conservation is complex. Our natural resources should be conserved where it is prectical to do so. WORKMAN: Support realistic conservation. Waimarino must retain its 'great outdoors' image. HEINOLD: With reservations, it can be overdone, it is necessary, but can impede growth. TREBILCOCK: I support conservation of our unique natural resources. PUNCH: Native bush has to be valued. Conservation should be in moderation. Do you feel that as a councillor you would be obliged to support local industries, businesses, educational institutions etc? HAITANA: Yes. RYLAND: We all should feel obliged as long as establishments cater for our needs. SUMMERHAYS: Naturally. BURROWS: Yes. HAMMOND: Yes, O'SULLIVAN: Yes, if they are involved in sharing with the region. Council should have shares in every development, with money
obliged, but would continue to support them as we have done. THOMPSON: Yes, the more support the stronger they become and the-better for the region. SUE: Yes certainly on each one's merits. BERRY: I have done and will continue to. WORKMAN: In principal yes. HEINOLD: Yes, with educational institutions only if they supplied the right type of education. TREBILCOCK: Yes, because they hold the future for our development and growth in the region. PUNCH: Irrelevant - councillors that use position to promote any business have no time with me.
