Red Cross & CD Seminar

If you would like to know how you could help in a civil defence emergency keep Saturday free. On Saturday March 5 the Waimarino Branch of Red Cross and Waimarino Civil Defence are holding an 'emergency preparedness' seminar at the Senior Studies Block, Ruapehu College, from 9am. Jennifer Hutson, a full time Red Cross worker, will run the seminar. Said Waimarino Red Cross Officer Sue Kumeroa: "She's spot on, she's the New Zealand adviser for emergency preparedness for Red Cross." Mrs Kumeroa said this type of seminar can be very interesting. "The information that can come out of them is intriguing, one seminar I attended had an animal psychologist w h o spoke on how to deal with animals in a n emergency," she said. "Can you imagine an evacuation of a town with everyone bringing

their dogs and cats' which are all going' wild?" "This seminar should | be very good for the ordinary person w h o has nothing to do with Red Cross or Civil Defence. There will be information on what they can do in an emergency to help. It's not a membership drive." Mrs Kumeroa asks interested people to call her if they intend to go j to the seminar, phone I 58-383 or 58-508 after | hours.
