Inspectors appointed
Long reports on the alternatives helped the Waimarino District Council steering committee decide who to appoint as health and building inspectors. District manager John Murrihy tabled detailed reports on the options. They were accompanied by reports on the appointments of a n engineer, town planners and office staff structure. In all cases Mr Murrihy was in the unenviable position of having to put his neck on the line and make firm recommendations. In the case of the building inspector's
appointment he had to choose between the Raetihi inspector and the Ohakune inspector. Although he recommended the latter because he was tougher and more up to date on building standards, the meeting was advised that the decision had been made for it. The Ohakune inspector had withdrawn his application for the position. Therefore the Raetihi inspector will get the job. While Mr Murrihy' s recommendation on the health inspector's job was adopted, the choice was not so easy. The options were ei-
ther using the Wanganui County Council's inspector two days a week or contracting the health inspection side of the job to the Wanganui Area Health Board. Mr Murrihy said i t appeared the latter service was cheaper and better. And because the county council could not supply plumbing and drainage permit services, it could not be considered. His recommendation was approved, but the district council is to look around locally for a qualified person to look after plumbing and drainage permits.
