Job shake

Jobs on the new Waimarino District Council are to be re-evaluated. This is despite the condition of amalg a m a tion that job security is guaranteed. All 40-odd staff of the merging Ohakune and Raetihi Borough and Waimarino County Councils have been promised continued employment. But the district council steering committee heard that many staff are "up in the air" despite the assurances. Meeting chairman Garrick Workman, Mayor of Raetihi, said during general business at about 11 p.m. that he wanted to see all "outside" staff positions re-evaluated.

He was referring to non-executive staff in the engineering and works departments. Earlier in the meeting the dozen or so administration staff positions were confirmed and job titles agreed to. County chairman Con Heinold said he felt the job evaluation task should be undertaken by the newly-appointed district engineer, Don Sattler. District manager John Murrihy s aid : " W i t h respect, the evaluation will be done with his involvement most definitely." In other words, Mr Murrihy would take charge over the assignment but he would refer to Mr Sattler.
