Pool to close this month

The Ohakune Borough Council decided last Thursday to close the Blyth Memorial Pool at the end of February. This decision was made after councillors heard that pool use for the season had been 'heavy'. Between 1-15 February 1100 school children visits had been recorded and 572 after-school users. Councillors commented that it seemed to happen every year that in mid-February a cold snap hit the Waimarino, discouraging further pool use. Mayor Taylor commented that the standard of swimming skills among Ohakune children had improved markedly in the past few years.
