Calling all film buffs

If the Ruapehu Film Society doesn't get some more members soon it will cease to exist. The society needs twelve members to keep going and only has four at the moment. The group meets once or twice a month to watch little known but thought provoking films, mostly from outside the conventional group of film makers. The type you

would expect to see at many film festivals. Films the group plan to screen this year include "Dry Wood and Hot Pepper" which is about the life and music of French speaking blacks from Louisianna Cajun country; "Heart Like a Wheel" which is about a woman drag racer - described as spectacularly satisfying, ferociously good entertainment; and "Kangaroo" - described as a fascinating piece of self flagellation from across the Tasman. Kangaroo is

to screen here on Sunday 28 February. Annual subscription to the society allows members to view the normal screenings free as well as all other film society screenings. If you're u n s u r e whether you're cut out to watch such high powered stuff you can be a visitor to one night's screening, though some films have a members only restriction. Interested film buffs should contact Errol or Anne Yincent, 58-374.
