Old-school pharmacists trade places
These are the people who advertise in the Bulletin and enable it to be delivered free of charge. In future it will also serve as a means of introducing new services, businesses and business people ' to readers.
A slower pace of life for Robin and Norma CoIIecutt and a taste of skiing for their daughters are among the reasons for the Pharmacy family's move to Ohakune. The Collecutts have moved to Ohakune to take over, the Ohakune Photo Pharmacy, previously operated by pharmacist Bruce Wilde. "Bruce had the pharmacy up for sale and we saw the opportunity here," said Mr CoIIecutt. "The area appealed to us and we just thought we'd like a change."
Mr CoIIecutt has operated the Eastern Pharmacy in Papakura for 27 years after training through "the old school" as Bruce Wilde described his and his successor's professional training. Both Mr Wilde and Mr CoIIecutt qualified as pharmacists after four year apprenticeships with b 1 o c k courses and night classes. These days pharmacists train a s full time students. Daughter Christine will work in the Ohakune pharmacy alongside her father. Christine CoIIecutt is a trained dispensary technician and has worked for her father
for six years - "and one and a half days for Bruce". Anne, the youngest CoIIecutt is now studying at Ruapehu College and will also help out in the shop outside school hours. The Collecutts don't have any grandiose plans for the Ohakune
Pharmacy, they hope to carry on the same service that people have come to expect there. "It is quite well laid out - much like how we'd been planning a pharmacy," said M r CoIIecutt. "It looks like a friendly place".
