Vandals were busy in the Waimarino this weekend. Raetihi Police Constable John Robinson is investigating a number of smash and grab incidents in the town. Included in those hit was Bowers Electrical where three radio cassette players and a double cassette player were stolen, early Saturday morning. ★ ★★ At 2.30am on Sunday morning thieves broke into the Ritz Tearooms in Seddon Street, Raetihi, taking a quantity o f cigarettes and coins. Items of food were believed to have also been taken. Raetihi and Ohakune police along with the Raetihi Volunteer Fire Brigade were called out to Horopito on Saturday night to an alleged car fire. The call was a hoax which wasted valuable time, according to Police staff. ★ ★★ Ohakune Police are investigating the breakage of a window in a Bums Street house at round 11.30pm on Saturday night. ★ ★★ Two Raetihi people were arrested on Saturday night, one for using insulting language and the other for refusing to accompany a police officer and refusing to supply a blood sample. Both people will appear in the Ohakune District Court on 3 March. ★ ★★ At least one chalet in the Turoa Village in Ohakune was broken into sometime within the last three weeks. A colour television, microwave and telescope were stolen from the chalet. Enquiries are continuing. ★ ★★ A 17-year old Taihape girl was arrested by Ohakune Police on Saturday afternoon on two charges. She also faced charges laid by the Ministry of Transport of careless use of a motor vehicle, driving without a licence and supplying false details. She will appear in the Ohakune District Court on 3 March. ★ ★★ Wholesome Foods in Clyde Street, Ohakune was broken into overnight Friday. Thieves gained entry through a side window and got away with a sum of cash. ★ ★★ Police intervened in three fights in Raetihi's main street that all took place on Saturday night.
