Rewarding camps for riders

Pony Club Camps have been the highlight of the past few months for Waimarino riders with both the Raetihi and Kaitieke branches holding tliem. Kaitieke branch inVited all King Country Are;

Pony Club membcrs to attend theirs from 23-28 January. Several membcrs and mothers from Raetihi and Ohakune attcndcd and had a most rewarding camf in perfect weather. Instruction in dressage. jumping and games and trcks around ihe hills with magnificent vicws of the mounlains werc offcred every day. The local swimming pool and rivcr werc both uscd to the full. Ohakune Branch rallics restarted on 6 Fcbruary and will continue every availablc weekend although thcre is a hcavy show and sports mceting schcdulc over the ncxt few weeks/ The A&P Show on 20-21 Fcbruary is cagcrly awaitcd by Pony Club riders as it had to be cancclled last year. Informal rallies will also be hcld after school on Wedncsdays for those available to attend. On Sunday 7 February the Kaitieke branch hosted the King Country Area Dressage Championships. Some of the Waimarino Pony Club beginners suddenly found themselves in the Junior group, a major step up for them with much more demanding tests. They acquitted themselves well. The NZ Horse Society ha: produced a new set of dressage tests suitable for pony club use and two of these were used for the first time. The new selection is a welcome change as the last set had been in use foi 7 years. The King Country Dressage Team was selected on Sunday and will compete at Katikati for the Zone Championships on 9 April. The team members are: 15 yrs and over Tania

Taylor (Ohakune), Judy Dixon (Kaitieke), Cynthia Taylor (Kaitieke); Reserve Jacqui Ripo (Kaitieke); 14 yrs and under Kcrry Stratford (Kaitieke), Sharon Wagstaff (Raetihi), Trudy Allerby (Raetihi); Reserve Natasha Richards (Ohakune). A lot of hard training is ahcad as the competilidn in the Bay of Plenty will be tough. Thanks go to Kaitieke for organising this important cvent. This is the first time the Zone

Championships are to be held. They will be held in six venues around New Zealand with the same judges travelling to the same tests to find the winning Area Team. On Tuesday 16 February there is a King Country Pony Club mecting to confirm the team and makc the neccssary arrangements. Waimarino and Ohakune branch meetings will be hcld within the next few weeks.
