Success due to fair organisers
Visitors to m o s t fairs and shows, rarely consider the time taken by organisers to ensure that their day out is a n enjoyable experience. Yet without the dedicated work of those behind the scenes in administration, no fair would be successful. If commitment, enthusiasm and expertise have any sway (and they undoubtedly do), Desert Fair '88 will be the most successful ever. Planning for 12 March has been going on for several months by a team of fifteen dedicated Waiouru workers, drawn from the Army, Navy, Ministry of Works and Civilians. The committee has now finalised the site plan and
organised the activities programme that will ensure visitors receive the maximum entertainment value possible, while at the same time enabling them to barter, browse and buy at the stalls as well as test their skills at the sideshows. The committee's plans have been the result of numerous meetings going through detail after detail. These meetings, as can be imagined, have consumed an enormous amount of time and effort. Yet all think the effort worfhwhile as the outcome will be the raising of funds for projects within the region. The test for the planning committee of Desert Fair '88 will be the patronage the fair is able to attract to Waiouru. If last year's visitor number is anything to go by then 8,500 will attend. This figure represents approximately the whole population permanently resident in the region. If votes were given for attendance it would seem Desert Fair is definitely considered a winner.
