New club formed for support
A new community support club has recently been formed, calling itself the Thursday Club. As the name suggests, this club will meet on Thursday afternoons, fortnightly, from 1.30-3. 30pm in the Community Health Rooms, Queen Street, Raetihi. The first meeting will be held on Thursday 3 March.
The aim of the club is to help people who rcquire a little extra emotional or psychiatric support and to make them feel more confident in the community. Club activities will alternate between social outings and visits to places of intercst as well as art and craft activities enabling membcrs to meet new people, foster better relationships with each other,
learn new skills and have some fun. Professional help and guidance will be given through the involvement of the Domiciliary Psychiatric Nurse, an occupational therapy aide from Wanganui, and the local Public Health Nurse. Members will be encouraged to participate i n group activities in order to gain greater mutual support and encouragement from each other. Outpatients, or ex-psy-chiatric patients as well as anyone else who feels they would benefit from this regular contact and support are most welcome to attend. Transport to the club can be arranged by contacting Leigh Berry phone 54-400 (office).
