Theft spate down to Ohakune youth

A 16-year old Ohakune youth was responsible for at least 12 incidents of breaking and entering, wilful damage and theft during the eight-day holiday period from 29 December to 6 January. The youth was involved in the theft of weapons from an Ohakune house, six cases of burglary of holiday chalets and numerous incidents of break-ins into businesses and private dwellings. Currently in Social Welfare custody in Levin, he will be appearing in the Wanganui District Court next month to face charges. ★ ★★ Ohakune Police report an assault that occurred on Thursday night. A 23 yearold male beat unconcious a 23 year-old female. The assault started outside the Ohakune Hotel and finished outside the supermarket in Goldfinch Street. The male appeared in court on 15 January in Wanganui and was remanded on bail to appear in the Taihape District Court on 2 February. A reward is offered for the recovery of a trout rod and reel lost near the Raetihi swimming hole in Valley Road. Anyone knowing the

whereabouts of the equipment is asked to contact the Ohakune Police. ★ ★★ Ohakune Police arrested a 16-year old youth for the theft of property from Pinetree Motors, Waiouru over the Christmas holiday period. Anothcr person is being sought in connection with the burglary. ★ ★★ Four local youths were arrested in connection with six burglaries and two counts of car conversions in Ohakune. Three of the youths were arrested by Wanganui Police. ★ ★★ A rental car unlawfully taken from Raetihi was later returned to its owner in a state of disrepair, after being involved in an accident in Ohakune. Police enquiries are continuing. ★ ★★ Six vehicles in the car saies yard of Webb Motors in Seddon St, Raetihi were interfered with during the Christmas break. In one instance, tyres and a battery were removed, while petrol caps were taken from all of the vehicles. ★ ★★ A 17-year old Raetihi youth was admitted to Wanganui Base Hospital with severe lacerations to his right arm after a domestic dispute early last week. He was reported to be in a comfortable condition. ★ ★★ A large amount of cash, jewellery, cassette player and a pair of shoes were stolen from a house in Karamu Place, Ohakune while its occupants were on holiday. Police enquiries are continuing. ★ ★★ Cash totaling $2,500 was taken from a house in Raetihi Road sometime between 24 December and 5 January.

★ ★★ A plain-clothed policeman who popped into the Ruapehu Hotel for a quick drink was the victim of audacious thieves who stole a camera and jacket from his car. Enquiries are continuing. ★ ★★ Two Ohakune youths will be appearing in the Ohakune District Court on

12 February after an incident of disorder in the lounge bar of the Ohakune Hotel on 29 December. ★ ★★ A 22-year old Auckland man charged for the theft of two bottles of Whiskey from the Ohakune Hotel on 26 December will appear in the Ohakune District Court on 12 February.
