New ski lift for Turoa racers

Turoa Skif ields propose to build a new T-bar before this year's ski season, mainly for racers. The new lift will be about 500 metres long running adjacent to the Jumbo Tbar at the western edge of the field. It will be placed mainly to meet the racing and training needs of national and district racing teams. New Zealand Ski Fields Managing Director M r Tony Wright said while the lift is being built with a view to the F.I.S. races this year and the World Cup event next year the pressure from racers on the skiing public is there now. He said recreational skiers will be able to use the lift but racers will have priority. The lift will provide good access for the public ito the areas to the west of the field including Solitude, especially when there are no races taking place.

Mr Wright said Turoa also plans to buy a new groomer as part of the build-up to the international race events planned.
