Raetihi Award
A post-humus award to Raetihi Samaritan Wyn McCarthy is to be presented to family members at the Raetihi Borough Council meeting tonight. Mayor Garrick Workman will present Raetihi's Good Citizenship Award for the late Mrs McCarthy's untiring work in the community and selfless devotion to helping others. Mr Workman said Mrs McCarthy will be remembered by the Waimarino people for a long time. "Wyn McCarthy gave everything to the community and asked for nothing in retum," he said. "Her cheerful manner was always welcoming to both young and old and each of us could take one page out of Wyn's book, there being no greater a caring individual," said Mr Workman. "In some small way this award presented to her husband Arthur and family will be a small token of our appreciation and respect." Silver candelabra presented to Ruby Parker on her 100th birthday is to be the object representing the citizenship award. Ruby Parker's family returned the candelabra to Raetihi after her death earlier this year, asking that it be kept in Raetihi.
