Bhutan term for Mayor
Ohakune's loss will be Bhutan's gain when mayor Bill Taylor takes off for the tiny Asian kingdom as a VSA worker next March. His Mayoralty is due to end when the new Waimarino District Council comes into being in April. Mr Taylor has opted foi
the two year job having considered the voluntary work when he resigned from teaching in 1985. He will be working with teachers and teaching English in the south o f Bhutan, which has parts of the Himalayas within its borders.
Mr T aylor said he decided to take the opportunity and thus opt out of local body politics to make way for fresh faces and new blood. He has been Mayor o f Ohakune for seven years having taken the job unnoposed after John Gould resigned.
