Brigade chief honoured
The Ohakune Fire Brigade's Chief Fire Officer of four years, Max Martin, was honoured by the brigade and officers
of the United Fire Brigade Association recently. Mr Martin received the highest honour awarded by the UFBA - the Gold Star -
for 25 years service to the association. Mr Martin, modesty prevailing, somewhat reluctantly attended the function in his honour held in the new bar area of the Ohakune Fire Station. His wife Angela was also honoured with a gold star for her support of Max during the past 25 years. Ohakune's Mayor Bill Taylor was unable to attend the function but sent word via telegram, commending Mr Martin on his years of dedicated service to the community. Other members to receive recognition were: Alan Nation, two year bar (17 years); Aubrey Dodd, five year medal; and ex-fireman Glen Ennis, retiring to Whakatane (25 years' Gold Star recipient.)
