Staffing Changes At Mazda Motors

The new managing director of Mazda Motors of New Zealand Limited, representing Mazda Motor Corporation of Japan, is Itaru (Ike) Oga. He replaces Takaaki(James) Morikawa, who remains in New Zealand as vice-president of Vehicle Assemblers New Zealand Limited, the assembly company for Mazda and Ford vehicles. Ike Oga has a background of automobile saies in many different markets. His initial experience was in the domestic Japanese market. Like most Mazda employees,

Ike was sent to a dealership, where he spent two years as a car salesman sharpening his understanding of car buyers. After seven years on the domestic saies department, Ike Oga joined the export department, spending eight years on US business. His next posting was Thailand, where he became managing director for the Iast two years of a five year posting. On his return to Japan, Ike became area manager for Asia. He was responsible for markets in Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, China, Taiwan and Brunei. Deputy managing director, Sadeo (Steve) Yamanishi, represents the Sumitomo Corporation. Since joining Sumitomo in 1964 Steve has worked with motor vehicles and machinery in many overseas markets including Burma, USA, Puerto Rico and European countries. During his time working in the Mazda Motors of America operation in Chicago, Steve had business dealings with lke Oga on Mazda US saies matters. Steve has held the position of deputy managing director since his appointment to Mazda Motors of New Zealand Limited in 1985. Mr Colin French assumes the position of executive director in the new structure with special responsibilities for external relationships especially those relating to

government, industry associations and Vehicle Assemblers New Zealand Limited. Peter Aitken assumes the position of general manager of Mazda Motors of New Zealand Limited. Peter had responsibility for Mazda's assembly operations during the period of merging the

Mazda and Ford operations into the new company Vehicle Assemblers New Zealand Limited. With Vehicle Assemblers New Zealand Limited formalised, Peter has assumed responsibilities for the daily operations of Mazda Motors of New Zealand Limited.
