Doctor and family settle in

Dr Jim Corbett is Raetihi's new resident doctor, who settled in with his family in the house attached to the surgery in Islingt o n Street. He and his wife Petra and their two children, Joel, two and a half years and Jessie, two weeks, moved

from Auckland and away from the stresses of city living. Raetihi is Dr Corbett' s first sole doctor position. He has worked extensively in Kaitaia, Invercargill, Northland and for a year in Auckland. He has a diploma in obstetrics and has qualified in the first part of a Family

Medicine Training Programme, equivalent to extra training as a general practitioner. Dr Corbett is impressed with facilities at the Waimarino Hospital and with the practice. The family were well received by residents who, according to

Dr Corbett, are extremely relieved to have a permanent doctor in the town. The surgery has been vacant since the departure of temporary locum Jonathon Jones in October and has not had a permanent doctor since Dr Henry Plant left early in the year. The Waimarino is not new to the couple, who lived in Ohakune several years ago. Mrs Corbett is a trained teacher and taught juniors at the Ohakune Primary School for a yfear. While their number one priority is their family, the couple are also keen trampers and are looking forward to trying some of the walks in the area. Dr Corbett is a keen sportsman and is thrilled with the sporting facilities i n Raetihi. They hope to become involved in various church organisations in the district having completed a one-year 'church planting course' while in Northland. Both have future aspirations of becoming missionaries. In the meantime, the Corbett's are happy in Raetihi and will intially be concentrating on settling into the community.
