New family for business
A name change does not necessarily mean sweeping changes to a business, according to Bruce and Karen Cranston, the new owners of Ohakune Engineering, formerly Ruapehu Engineering in Burns Street. The couple took over the business officially on 3 0 October from former own-
ers Eric and Glenys Betty, who have since bought a motel in Hamilton. A fitter and welder by trade, Bruce is enthusiastic about their venture and is keen to build up the business. The workshop will be manned by 2-3 full-time staff while another eight fulfil a repairs and maintenance contract at Winstone Pulp
Industries. Bruce was mill supervisor for MSD Speirs for seven years prior to taking over the engineering firm. Karen will be involved in handling the business' accounts and wages, in between looking after the couple's 11-month old son Nicholas.
