WAIMARINO DISTRICT COUNCIL CREST COMPETITION With the forthcoming amalgamation of the Ohakune Borough Council, Raetihi Borough Council and the Waimarino County Council under a single local authority to be known as the Waimarino District Council due to take place from 1 April 1988, there is a need to replace the existing stationery, signwriting, colours, crests etc of the three present Councils with a single 'corporate image' representing the new amalgamated Council. We are seeking community involvement in this decision and are therefore inviting your suggestions, ideas, sketches, designs etc for a symbol, monogram or crest that will represent the Waimarino area and District council in future years. A prize of $150 will be paid for the best idea/design concept we receive from any ratepayer or resident within the proposed Waimarino District council area and a further $25 will be paid for the best idea/design from a primary school pupil within the area. Conditions of Entry 1. Open to any ratepayer or resident in the present Ohakune Borough, Raetihi Borough or Waimarino County Council areas together with members of their families. 2. The idea/design concept should be readily identifiable and must represent the Waimarino area as a single entity rather than any of the existing individual council areas. 3. The idea/design concept must be suitable for reproduction in two colours when this permits but it must also be suitable for single colour reproduction when such a restriction applies (in newspaper advertisements for example). 4. The design must be capable of considerable enlargement and reduction in size from the original size submitted. 5. The design submitted must not exceed 1 5cm in height or width but regard must be paid to the potential enlargement and reduction in size (see Condition 4). Some applications of the design may require a reduction to 2.5cm so excessively fine detail should be avoided. 6. The design must be suitable for application to a wide range of uses such as various stationery items: letterheads, envelopes, account forms, council seals, publicity material, newspaper advertisements, sign-writing, council vehicies, transfers, displays, flags etc. 7. Using coloured pencils, inks or paints each design must be submitted on a background of white paper or card. 8. Designs must be received by 4pm on 7 December at either the Council Administration Centre in Raetihi or the Ohakune Borough Council Chambers in Miro Street, Ohakune. 9. Competitors must write or print their names and addresses clearly on the back of each design. Primary school pupils must state their age and the school they attend. 10. The judging panel wiil comprise the steering committee of the three existing councils. The judge's decision is final. 1 1 . The copyright of the winning idea/design concept will become the property of the Waimarino District Council on payment of the prize money. All other submissions can be collected from the Ohakune Borough Council offices between 15 December and 15 January. 12. The Waimarino District Council reserves the right to use the winning design or eiements from it in whole or in part but is not obliged to use any elementof the design. Winners will be notified and the results will be published in the Waimarino Bulletin on 15 December 1987. JJLMurrihy District Manager Waimarino District Council
