Woolpack recycle symbol released
The Wool Board has released its new symbol for properly recycled woolpacks. The green symbol is the Board's weapon to gain the confidence of the wool trade in recycled packs, and save growers more than $3 million a year. The newly formed New Zealand Woolpack Recyclers' Association has backed the symbol and 30 firms have signed agreements with the Board to abide by a code of practice in return for its use. "If anyone finds a pack below standard, there will
be no problems about its replacement", says the President of the association, Mr P.D. (Peter) Wilkinson of Temuka. "We see our business as part of the industry scene for many years to come. We are saving what would otherwise be a complete and utter waste by selling cheaper packs to farmers and providing about 70 permanent jobs. "We also see our responsibility to mills overseas - recycled packs should arrive in as good a condition as new ones." Mr Wilkinson says there
has been a marked improvement in the standard of recycled packs in recent months and brokers he has spoken to are pleased. It will take some time, however, to clear "the rubbish"
out of the system. The Wool Board's Transport and Shipping Group Manager, Mr P.A. (Peter) Spratley, says each pack will carry the recycler's registration number, no pack will go through the system more than twice, all will have new caps, no brands should be visible and cuts should be neatly sewn. "Clearly marked and properly repaired, these woolpacks should be perfectly satisfactory," he says. "Th$ Board is pleased with the recyclers approach."
