Rave reviews for top garden

An imaginative use of materials, some unusual features and a refreshing approach to landscaping won an Ohakune couple first place in this year's Borough garden competition. The new garden of Bev Kerr and Ian Harrison won rave reviews from the judges Locheen Punch, Mary Parsons and Gail Imhoff, all members of the Raetihi Garden Club. Mrs Punch was particularly impressed and labelled the garden as having "fantastic potential". Ten gardens were entered in both new and established categories, which provoked some comment from judges. "We drove past a number of gardens that were of a high standard and could have been entered," said Mrs Punch. Another comment concerned the gardens that were entered in the wrong category. Two entries in the new garden category were considered by judges to be established. Overall, Ohakune gardens were considered to be of a high standard. Results New gardens - 1st Bev Kerr/Ian Harrison, 2nd Shirley Rian, 3rd Ian Hays. Established - 1st E. Baigent, 2nd P. Brown.
