Changes In Nifty Scooter
Honda's Nifty 50 scooter - New Zealand's biggest selling two-wheeler for the past five years - has undergone major changes in 1987. The new Nifty, which Blue Wing Honda Ltd, the New Zealand importer and distributor of Honda motorcycles, launched at this year's Motor Expo in Auckland, is different in nearly every respect from its predecessor. An up-to-the-minute, aerodynamically styled body with distinctive graphics and bright colours, houses a more powerful 50cc twostroke motor, better brakes and more sophisticated suspension units. The new Nifty, which will be sold in New Zealand as the DJI Nifty, a name which links the new Nifty with its model designation on the Japanese market, is slightly
longer and heavier than its predecessor. But with a power output of 5.2ps - nearly three times greater than the current Nifty - performance is substantially improved. The new Nifty has impressive acceleration for such a small scooter and top speed is up from around 50km/ h to 70km/ h. The DJI Nifty's suspension set up employs a trailing bottom link unit with hydraulic damper at the front and a unit swing arm with hydraulic damper at the rear. The new body and revised suspension provide the new
Nifty with greater stability, improved riding comfort and better weather protection. Honda's proven V-matic belt-driven automatic transmission and an engine which incorporates push-button electric starting, back-up kick start and trouble-free capacitor discharge ignition, makes the new Nifty as easy and as simple to ride and handle as its predecessor. As with the previous Nifty, a separate oil tank with automatic feed means that fuel does not need to be specially mixed on this latest two-stroke scooter from Honda.
