Free Check-ups Offered
With summer just around the corner many New Zealanders will be considering fitting a sunroof into their cars. However a number of misconceptions about the sunroofs on todays market has prompted one Aucklandbased company to offer free advice and check-ups to all motorists who have had a sunroof fitted or are considering installing one. The Sunroof and Roofrack Shop in Newmarket has been in business for over six years and specialises in
supplying and fitting a wide range of British manufactured sunroofs, including the popular Countess popup and Sky Top electric brands. Manager Chris Slee says that todays sunroofs have improved in a number of ways. "Due to modern engineering and the use of silicon rubber seals the old problem of leaking roofs is now a thing of the past," he says. "Sunroof replacement is also much easier today as the roofs are moulded and clipped into place rather than glued." "In addition, sunroofs are much cooler than they used to be due to the special screen printed glass that is used, which keeps the car interior cooler than bronze or tinted glass." The Sunroof and Roofrack Shop undertakes a number of sunroof replacement jobs on roofs that have
been inadequately fitted and Mr Slee is keen to emphasise the importance of going to specialist installers to have the job done. "Shoddy workmanship can be dangerous," he says. "Fitting a sunroof is a specialist job requiring careand precision - once that hole is cut in the roof it is too late." Another common misconception he says is that top sliding sunroofs are more secure than other types. "The only way to gain entry through either a sliding or pop-up roof is to break the glass, and in fact most people would try and enter through a side window rather than climb through the roof." Mr Slee also recommends choosing a sunroof which is closed by a quick-acting handle rather than a wind handle. "A wind handle takes longer," he says. "An important consideration if you get caught in a torrential down pour."
