Continued from previous page. When entries for the Awards closed on Friday October 16, there were 298 entries from 129 exhibitors. Painting had proven to be the most popular category with 1 72 entries, followed by photography with 108. However a disappointing

total of 1 8 had been received in the graphics section. The parks and rivers section had proven to be the most popular with 137 entries received, landscape with 118 and towns and townships with 43. Entries were received from all over New Zealand including Oamaru, Dunedin and Franz Josef in the South

Island to Whangarei in the North. J ust under a quarter of the entrants live within the area defined as Central King Country. The exhibition will open in Taumarunui on Saturday November 21 and will be open each day between 10am and 4pm until Wednesday December 2.

The last word belongs to Peter Mclntyre himself who has produced many paintings in the region and has this to say. "Despite my years of travel, 1 can say that, for myself, there is enough inspiration within a five kilometre radius of my cottage to last a lifetime."
