Grant Will Help

A regional development investigation grant of $7,421 from the Trade and Industry Department will go a long way in helping defray costs associated with the Visual Art Awards says the Trust secretary Michael Turner. Mr Turner said the money, which came as a result of lobbying from the Trust to the King Country Regional Development Council, breaks new ground for the Council. "It shows that the Awards are seen as being economically important to the region," he said. The money would help the Trust to ascerfain whether the Awards are really feasible as an ongoing event. However it was

already proven that the Awards had brought people into the region making them aware of the Central King Country and its beauty. Mr Turner said there was little doubt the Awards were of wider regional relevance. The Trust he said was now looking at its programme further down the track towards 1990. The last 12 months has been a busy time for Mr Turner as he has spent thousands of hours ensuring the Awards are a success. "It's been an enjoyable project," he said. Along with the other Trustees, Mr Turner will be able to see the results of that work when the arts festival opens on November 21.
