Arts' Patron A World Renowned Artist
The patron of the Central King Country Visual Arts Trust, Mr Peter Mclntyre, is known the world over as an artist of unparalleled talent. Born in Dunedin in 1910, Mclntyre was the son of a well known Dunedin artist, also named Peter. Mclntyre's first big break as an artist came in the second world war when General Freyberg commissioned him as official war artist. Mclntyre has published several books including his illustrated autobiography 'The Painted Years', 'Peter Mclntyre's West', 'Peter Mclntyre's Pacifig' and their companion volume 'Peter Mclntyre's New Zealand'. In 1970 Mclntyre was awarded the OBE by Queen Elizabeth for his increasing success as an author and his accomplishments in the fine arts' field. More recently he was awarded the Governor General's Award for his lifelong contribution to contemporary art. Mclntyre and his wife Pattie have two children, Sara and Simon who along with their parents, consider the Central King Country their home.
