The Taumarunui Promotions' Association has planned a full ten days' activities to support the Visual Arts Exhibition.
FRIDAY, 20th NOVEMBER From 9.30am - Open air entertainment by local musicians, Manuaute Street. 12.30pm - Official Opening of Taumarunui Festival '87, Manuaute Street. 1.00pm - Performances by children from local schools. 1.00pm - Riviera Hereford Stud Farm tour, Ngakonui. 2.00pm - Waiawa Deer Farms tour, Ngakonui. 2.00pm - AFFCO Freezing Works tour. 3.00pm - King Country Radio F.XPO '87, Taumarunui Athletic Stadium. 7.00pm - King Country Radio Fashion Show, Athletic Stadium. 8.30pm - Film: Return of the Pink Panther, Regent Theatre, Hakiaha Street. SATURDAY, 21st NOVEMBER Tee Dee Pee Dee's Picnic: Taumarunui Domain 10.00am - King Country Radio EXPO '87, Taumarunui Athletic Stadium. 1 1.00am - Official Opening of the Central King Country Visual Arts Exhibition, Taumarunui Memorial Hall, Flakiaha Street. 11.00amTee Dee Pee Dee's Picnic begins at Taumarunui Domain. A great family fun day open to all, featuring a vintage car rally, face painting, swimming, helicopter rides, children's teddy bear competition, woodchoppingand chainsawcarving, Ultimate Game shoot, lollie scramble, model plane demonstration, police dog demonstration, live music, Service Club stalls, mystery tent, gymnastics demonstration, sausage sizzle, go-kart rally and more. 12 noon - Judging of children's teddy bear competition. 12 noon - Squash Club sausage sizzle. SUNDAY, 22nd NOVEMBER Enjoy a day at Ngapuwaiwaha Marae Taumarunui Street. 10.00am to 7pm - Visual Arts Exhibition, Taumarunui Memorial Hall, Hakiaha Street, Adults $2.00. 10.00am - Scenic Flights, Taumarunui Airport, all day. II.00am - Powhiri Welcome. Followed by a performance by Taumarunui High School Culture Group. 12 noon - Church Service. 1.00pm - Mini Bus tour. Visit Omre Parkand Rawhide, Kakahi. Friendly farm animals, quarter horse breeders, leathercraft workers, saddlemakers. $10.00 per person. Book at the Information Centre. 1.30pm - Hangi lunch to be followed by cultural items. 3.00pm - Karakia Closing. $10.00 per person for day at the Marae. No charge. 10.00am to 7.00pm- Visual Arts Exhibition, Taumarunui Memorial Hall, Hakiaha Street, Adults $2.00. 1.00pm - Guided tour of Tarangower Golf Course. A chance for non-golfers to sample the delights of the course. 2.00pm - Slide show featuring 'Art of the Berlin Wall', by Dr Johann Bernhardt, presently touring New Zealand. Finishes at 4.00pm. Venue: Little Theatre, Golf Road. 2.00pm - AFFCO Freezing Works tour. No charge. 4.00pm - Twilight Golf Tournament followed by barbecue tea. All players welcome. Book at Information Centre. 9.00am - Maniaiti Marae - Typical day on the farm. Begins with feeding out of pigs, followed by a trip to Moerangi Station for farm viewing and shearing display. Then a visit to Pene's farm to see deer and a wide range of ponga. $20.00 per person. Barbecue lunch provided. Book at Information Centre. Book at Information Centre. 9.00am - Art and Craft Exhibition and Sale continues at Dalgety Building, Miriama Street until 12 noon. 11.00am - Doll Show. Collection of porcelain dolls including authentically dressed Maori and novelty dolls. Open until 4.00pm. Venue: REAP Office, Manuaute Street. 10.00am to 7.00pm - Visual Arts Exhibition, Taumarunui Memorial Hall, Hakiaha Street, Adults $2.00. 1 1.00am - Taumarunui Camera Club display. Includes photographic works and an interesting collection of camera equipment from days gone by. Venue: REAP Office, Manuaute Street. Open until 4.00pm. 1 2 noon - "Pie de Gras" Includes pie bake, pie eating, pie throwing and catching, Tug-o-war, tractor sack rides, motorbike rides, raft race and more. Team as well as individual events. Highlight of the day: "Bucking Bronco" the mechanical horse. Who can stay on the longest? - with pie in hand, of course. Venue: Cherry Grove.
