Summer league basketball starts
Summer league basketball started in the Waimarino on Monday 2 November with 9 teams participating. To promote interest in this area, club captain, Thomasina (Tommy) Taituma, has brought Taumarunui ideas into the first round. The first round is called the "Jubilee Cup Tournament". To qualify for this trophy, five members must score a basket each and one player must score a three pointer. After Thursday night's games, only four teams out of the 9 got their jubilee points. It is stated in the jubilee cup rules that any five players must score a basket each, therefore, if a tearr
takes to the court with only four players they cannot compete for the cup in that particular game - they must have five different players score. To teams in this area, this is a great novelty and hopefully will create more interest in this sport. Results after Thursday night are: Elite Macs 66 (J) - Unique. 37 (J), Elite Tees 55 (J) - Elite Juniors 23 (J), Tigers 10 - Dunkers 59, Anything 34 - Light Shades 35, Elite Macs 66 (J) - Elite Juniors 23 (J), Unique 49 (J) - Staff 77. (J) denotes Jubilee points. Any new teams wishing to register for the second round must do so be-
fore Thursday 3 December. They cannot compete in this first round as the draw has been made up to 10 December. Registration forms are available from The Secretary, Mrs J. O'Sullivan in Ohakune.
