Good year for badminton ends
The Ohakune Badminton Club has had another very successful year, with many club members entering regional tournaments throughout the year with great success. The Club's D grade players hold the plate again this year after winning the D grade inter-club competition. The team members were: Teauti Cleary, Lee Deadman, Tony Hall, Barry Marnock. The Ohakune C grade team won the regional C grade inter-club competition, but have to play Marton, the winning C grade team in the Wanganui area, to see if they can retain the cup they won last year. This would be the first time in 18 yeas the club have won it. Team members are: Jocelyn Cranston, Lee-Anne Beavis, Eileen Clarke, Colin Cranston, Garry Deadman. Club championships were held on the 27 October and 3 November and the club now has two new club champions, with Michael Edwards winning- over Kenneth Young and Jocelyn Cranston winning over Kay Cranston in the singles. Other results: Ladies' Plate Winner - Teauti Cleary beat Janet Duigan; Men's Plat Winner - Ivan Young beat Barry Marnock; Ladies' Doubles Winner - Kay and Jos Cranston beat Lee-Anne Beavis and Eileen Clarke; Men's Doubles Winner - Colin Cranston and Garry Deadman beat Kenneth Young and Barry Marnock; Mixed Doubles Winner - Colin and Jos Cranston beat Michael Edwards and Lee-Anne Beavis; Ladies' Double Plate Winner - Lee Deadman and Teauti Cleary beat Jill Smith and Wendy Hays; Men's Double Plate Winner - Ivan Young and Tony Hall beat Harvey Young and Joe Kaata; Mixed Double Winners - Shaun Doyle and Jill Smith beat Barry Marnock and Lee Deadman.
